Glen,No GFI's in series. 
They are in a fairly new addition to my large garage.  All electrical equipment was installed by a very competent electrical contractor.
There was just something fidgety about that specific GFI.  
But, it opened up an option that I had not considered before.
Long term power disconnect to these maintainers will definitely kill an expensive battery with the slow drain over a period of 5-6 months..
