Not sure, but *possibly* taking the family to KCOD to see Yellowstone
for Saturday and Sunday this weekend. Since the RV-10 brings it
down to a short 5.5 hr trip. Any good comments about the
area/airstrip/lodging/weather this time of year?

I have never flown up to the area you intent to go to, but this is
definitely a place I would like to go.

I would like to share with all you that are not aware of a very useful tool
that many soaring people have been using for a few years. The great thing
about this product is that there are many items which are useful for the
power pilot during the summer months. Tim's trip is an excellent example.

This tool predicts as much as two days out such parameters as boundary layer
height(Up to what lever you will feel turbulence) Convectivity,
overdevelopment potential(Total cloud over), ceiling of the cloud bottoms,
wind direction and velocity. There are many other parameters I didn't
mention.

Tim flying out to Wyoming/Montana could use this to plan anticipated flight
levels, time to arrive based on cloud development and turbulence and other
weather events.

The site is www.drjack.info/index.html while on this page go to blipmaps.
This should give you an example of all those parameters and how it works.

I do not know whether the site has a trial period but the subscription is
very cheap.

For a soaring pilot, this site is invaluable but can be also useful for the
power pilot.

Tim, I've never flown into Cody before but have gone to West Yellowstone
and Jackson Hole airports several times. Both are proximate to major
park entrances. Flying along side the Grand Tetons is an experience that
every aviator should relish once in their life time. Yellowstone park is
one of my favorite places on earth, my wife and I honeymooned there a
'few' years ago. There are several motel/hotels in either West
Yellowstone or Jackson, but you should call before leaving as they are
pretty busy in the summer. Not likely that you will find anytning inside
the Park available at this late date. There are rental cars at both of
the above airports. It may only be 5 +/- hours in the -10 but be aware
that ANY flight after about 10-11 am local can expect STRONG convective
activity. Additionally, the eastern portion of Wyoming from the Neb.
border westward is normally pretty windy so plan on headwinds going out,
but coming home you can point her downhill and go like (at)#$! (I remember
seeing 230 kts gs in the Baron)
