Does anyone know the dimensions of a hartzel hub? I'd like to make a spacer
to mount the spinner backplate and fit the cowling.

Van has the spacer dimentions and instructions for installing the cowl
without having the prop at hand. Make sure you understand how much
you need to allow for a space between the cowl and the spinner
backplate. They talk about 1/8" in the construction manual. I think
that it will be impossible to install/remove the cowl without
scratching everything with 1/8" gap. I think something like 3/8"+ is
a better clearence.
Do not archive.

3/8 " will leave too large a gap. Try 3/16. When you go to remove your
cowl. Slip some duct tape between the spinner and cowl to keep from
skuffing.

Steve,
We wanted to do this as well, so we go ahold of a prop shop and they gave us
an old unairworthy prop hub. That worked great. We had to make the spacers
(.250") to hold the hub off the back plate, but that is a lot easier than
trying to make something to replace the hub.
If you give a prop shop the model number of the prop, they should be able to
tell you which hubs would be the same.
GOD BLESS!
