I use 3 sec of prime and 1/2" of throttle.

If you are using this solenoid http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/appages/elsolprimer.php

double check it was installed in the correct orientation. #2 orifice is in # 1 orifice is out.

If backwords the boost pump will blow the plunger open and flood the engine.

You might also consider installing a check valve between the solenoid and manifold as depending on where the solenoid is in your fuel system there is a chance it will get "sucked" open at high power/fuel flow.

I will check to see if I have it hooked up correctly, last year I started it for the first time and had a heck of a time getting it started, as you can see on the video.

Thanks Milt

Here's just a small suggestion. Do you have an intake drain kit? If
you do not, you need to install one. They are very important.

If you have one, you can prime the crap out of the engine (over-prime it
intentionally) and the excess fuel will just run right out of the open
intake drain kit. Prime the living daylights out of it, go back and
pull the prop through a few blades (be real careful here because you can
start this engine in a heartbeat if the P leads are not right!) and then
watch the excess fuel run out the intake drain valve. Doing this
accomplished a few things.

1. It shows that the intake drain is working and is not clogged up with
oil. If fuel comes out, there is no more oil to DRAIN out, and that is
a good thing.

2. It gets fuel into the cylinders and lets it cook for a little while.
Close the intake drain valve. Get in the airplane and crank with the
throttle just slightly off the stop. Be ready to shoot some prime when
it starts, especially if it is cold weather.

It will start almost instantly. If you go more than two blades with no
firing, then repeat the process. Don't just keep spinning the engine,
you will run out of air.

This all adds time to the starting process, but it WORKS.

I checked the primer solenoid today and it is hooked up correctly with the # 2 port in and # one out . yes I do have the drain kit installed on the three bottom intake manifolds and I am about two weeks for my second start up. I'll try that, when I start it up . Last year it shot fire from the exhaust when it started, all the guys thought it was mighty robust to say the least.
Thanks for all the help guys .

Henry
