A friend has just purchased a L-39 and he is going to base it in Reno.

I know the L-29 burns K-1 Kerosene just fine and my fuel company says it's the same as Jet A just without the prist, so my question is do any of the L-29 guys have experience with L-39's and if so is it possible to use K-1 Kerosene in the L-39?????

So long as it really has come out of the same tank as Jet-A... all the
numbers need to be the same, both aircraft are sensitive to sulphur content
(for lubrication) and the energy content of the fuel. If the fuel takes
longer to burn you will get flames back into the compressor section and your
engine will retire early.

Actually Jon, The sulphur is not what gives different fuels their
lubricity, sulphur is only removed from certain fuels to eliminate
smoke and prevent turbine blade cokeing. Jet-A and #1 Diesel, and K1
Kerosene are virtually Identical. and they all come from the same tank
during mass distribution, Jet-A is held to a slightly higer standard
with respect to moisture content and pour chaterisitcs, otherwise K1
kerosene is better than Jet-A due to its higer lubricity factor and
lower sulphur content. #2 diesel on the other hand has a different
flash point range and could cause problems. Distributors often sell
off excess Jet-A as K1 or #1 diesel or vis versa, depending on demand
situations.
