Hi Buz,
I might be quite wrong but my understanding is that the lighter gross weight is for the European VLA standard of 460 kgs. None of these 460 kg aircraft came into Australia and I would assume the US. Can't remember whether it's 450 or 460.
The VLA version had longer and lighter wings and only 1 fuel tank and a smaller useful load as I understand it. At least that was the case when I bought mine. The 2 different versions were made for Europe(460hg VLA) and the US (560 kg) Someone with more knowledge might be able to correct me or fill in the gaps.

Hi Malcolm,
I am sure you are correct about the lighter gross being for the European VLA market. But did the two have different central beam assemblies? I certainly don't know, but if they do, then I would caution anyone to be sure exactly which central beam version you have.
How is your "jet" doing, by the way? I haven't flown much during this really bad winter we had, but spring is here now, so things should pick up. I have close to 645 hours on my Esqual LS now. Jabiru engine is still purring along nicely. Over twice the speed of my Cub on the same fuel burn. Love it.
You going to make it to Oshkosh?
Blue skies,
Buz

Hi Buz,

Just under 500 hrs on mine. Have put a Sensenich prop(carbon adjust) on May last year. Long story chasing engine vibrations, but turned out to be the electric actuator on the Rospeller C/S. Have had a fair amount of trouble getting the pitch right as the setting is extremely sensitive 0.5 degrees goes from being a climb prop to a cruise prop, but have it right now, I think??? I really miss the C/S but love the simplicity of the Sensenich. Prop is like the wood Sensenich with turned forward tips. Looks weird.
Have been fiddling with mixture adjustment on my Rotax-runs very rich the higher I go. Most recent trip to pick up a doz bottles wine saw just on 14 litre/hr at 119-120 kts at av 8000'. Would normally be 18-19L. Works on the same principle as the Haqman?? and is best above 7000' on part throttle. No Oshkosk for a few years. By then might have a Lightning if the improvements keep coming Smile Dennis would still have to be the Aus agent.
