Weather is predicted to be 68-72 C mostly sunny with winds 200-210.  The flyin is definitely on!!

i39 C Richmond C Madison Kickoff Flyin is
officially on the books for Saturday March 7th.

We have had a new business take over the FBO. Warbirds of America also has relocated to the corporate hangar. The appearance of the FBO has substantially changed along with the attitudes and environment. The airport is once again a nice place to hang out.

i39 is located in Central Kentucky C just south of Lexington. We have had over 100 GA aircraft here for this one day flyin. The list of RV goes from RV-3s to Evos C Harmons C Supers to 4's C 6's C 7's C 8's C 9's....but no 10's as of last year. Let's change that one. This is a very low key C get the birds out and stretch those legs after the prior couple of months of winter weather flying. I'm not going to jinx the weather C suffice to say we have had a couple good years of weather.

Remember C if you fly in there will be no ambulances C
firetrucks or emergency personnel on site........there C that out of
the way.

We will once again have coffee C donuts C
hotdogs C colas C water ........................and..............again
this year...............a client is showing up with his mobile corn
roaster!!

Starting time is light 30 with closing at dark 30. Bring your camera
and best lies C you will need the best of both. No vendors C no $3
hotdogs C no forums C no nothing C just airplanes and friends. Be careful C this is an uncontrolled airfield with no NOTAMS C no nothing C safety is up to you.
Keep your head on a swivel and use the radio. You know the drill.

Looking forward to seeing everyone nice and early. 60 degrees and
sunshine.....YES C that's what we are pulling for!!

I don't think that I could land my RV-6 with winds 200-210. Smile Sounds
like fun wish that I was closer.

Jerry,
Just fly a little south of I39 and let the winds blow you back to I39.
Winds 200-210mph, cruise (at) 170mph = - 30-40mph about 20-30minutes flying
backwards. Piece o' Cake. LOL!!!!
Wish that I could attend but have to work at hospital Fri, Sat, Sun, Mon.
Flu has a lot of hospital staff down.
Dana, don't have too much fun with 'Black' back in the air. Eat some wings
for me.

I just checked the weather for our area for today and tomorrow. You can
expect winds of 15-25mph, per the latest report I've seen. Around here,
that means one should be prepared for winds gusts of over 30mph because
that's how our days are, lately. Right now, it's blowing 18-24; and, it's
just 7:30AM. I'm not trying to scare anyone off from the event because it's
a good one. I just want to alert you to the fact that you can expect some
turbulance in the area because we have knobs just south of I39 that can stir
it up, a bit. The terrain at the airport also drops off on the west side of
the field, which can promote some of the same. Just be prepared for some
rocking and rolling. Because I'm not as assertive in my flying as many of
you, and don't want to test my skills and insurance with winds over 30mph,
I'll probably drive over there, if I get to come. It's just an hour's drive
for me.

Have a great day! Tomorrow looks like it will be a good one.

As Jim says C the prediction is for winds around 20-23.

http://www.usairnet.com/cgi-bin/launch/code.cgi?Submit=Go&sta=KLEX&state=KY

That will put us landing on 18.  Using the rule of thumb C the crosswind component would be 6.6 to 7.6 at 20 degree offset and 13.3 to 15.3 at 40 degree offset.  Not factoring in any gusts C plan on some wind.

Last minute Weather Channel update still shows winds from the SSW at
15-25mph. Yesterday, I also heard a prediction for winds with gusting over
30mph from a local radio station. This would be more normal, given Weather
Channel's prediction.
The temps will be in the mid 70F range, though. Should be a nice day, other
than the wind. Be careful out there.

At DVK, which is about 28 miles west of I39, the wind was from 210 at 8kts
and clear below 12000 at 6:00AM.

I hope this helps.
