I would like to know what prop you are using with the O-200 engine.
I have the Sensenich W68ZK-57G which I was told is what AMD puts on the factory plane. I am not getting the proper RPM with it.
Wondering if I have wrong prop or an engine problem.

Hi Floyd,

I am no prop expert, but the one used on the Jabiru in the FWF from
Pete is the Sensenich W64ZK-49. This is 4 inches shorter and has a
pitch 8 inches smaller. Considering the engine has 30 percent more
horsepower than the O-200, it sounds like you might have the wrong
one. One issue to consider is the Jabiru turns more RPMs than the
Continental so that might make a difference.

Culver has a a nice prop calculator online at
http://www.culverprops.com/pitchselection.htm. You might try it to
see what prop you should be using for your engine and speed.

Good luck,

Paul

Yes, tha W68ZK-57G is what's on my Zodiac. What kind of RPM are you seeing?
I'm not having trouble getting up above 2600 in cruise flight at full
throttle. I haven't paid attention to what it is on the takeoff roll,
though; if you'd like, and I manage to commit aviation tomorrow morning,
I'll take a look.

Static rpm is about 2240. In flight it will not go above 2400 in level
flight. It took a dive to hit 2700.
My rate of climb tests today maxed out at 520 ft/min.

Guess I better check out the motor. It is 0 SMOH and possibly could have a
problem.

Dumb question: How did you test this? Full power, on the ground, brakes
locked?

I cruise at 2550 with no trouble at all, and that's throttled back a little.
I also get 800-1000 FPM climb right after takeoff solo with full fuel.

Yeah, this seems like something that needs checking. I couldn't begin to
tell you what to look at, though.

Yes, static test is full throttle holding the brakes.

Thanks for your information. I will check the timing of the engine. With a
new overhaul, it is possible they have the valve timing off. Will check
that.

This morning, I did this after my normal runup for a moment...and got 2350
RPM for a moment before I had to back off (the brakes could not hold the
aircraft).

Thanks for checking.

I found my problem. The valve timing is off. Time for a little warranty
work!

My Dynon 180 was acting up a little so now will be a good time to send it in
for a checkup.

Hopefully I will have everything fixed and ready to go in a couple weeks.
