Dan, the brown or maroon pad it courser than the green. The reason there may be some hesitation on our part to say what is right or wrong is that we are not sure exactly what and when you plan to do with the metal. On my XL I used the maroon pads to clean and scuff the metal before re cleaning with lacquer thinner and wax /grease cleaner then priming with epoxy primer. When the epoxy seals corrosion is dead.
