No, just take  two nuts and screw them on the stud, one on top of the other, make sure that the  top one is tightened down VERY tightly against the lower one, then using a  wrench on the bottom one unscrew the stud out of the case.  Your local  parts dealer normally carries a stud removal tool that is much easier to use but  everyone that I have seen destroy the stud in the process of removing it.   The lock nut method allows you to reuse the stud.
