I'm new to Ultralights and Rotax motors and I just purchased a '91 Kolb Mk II with a 503 DDIC. The engine is equipped with a pull start. and the only time I'm successful starting this motor is if I use starting fluid. Any suggestions as to what adjustments is necessary?

First of all DO NOT use starting fluid especially on a two stroke that gets it lube throught the fuel, install a primer pump to squirt gas in the intake manifold and you shouldnt have any problems starting but if you already have tyhat system and use it then you have other problems what type of ignition systerm and Dual or single might need more info to really help you

Scott,

Not sure if the Bing carb is like a Rotax 912 but with the 912 the throttle must be closed to start the engine. If you open the throttle it will not start. If that is not the case then a primer will do the trick.

Buy a primer pump. If I don't use the primer, it will take forever to start when cold. If I give it 3 pumps, the engine starts on the first pull. Make sure to have the enricher circuit open as well. When it's really warm outside or the engine has run in the last hour, I can modify the startup procedure.

thanks guys. I'll try the closed throttle. And if that doesn't work well then I'll look into the primer pump.

It never occured to me to consider the the lack of oil in starting fluid.
