switchbox might introduce just enough loss to interfere with one's ability
to contact ATC at a distance when it's needed most.

Yup. Jim's right. The SWR "bump" inserted by
such 'non-feedline' accessories is insignificant in
terms of observable performance . . . but that little
hunk of brass bugs me. There is a better way and
this is just the group to give some new ideas a
try.
