My neighbor bought a Lancair Legacy with a Lycoming TIO-540 and Electroair Ignition system. The electrical is 28V. With the Electroair system, there is a magnetic sensor aft of the flywheel that senses passing "cogs" on the prop extension so as to measure and display RPM in the cockpit. The RPM indication is accurate at idle, but with an almost imperceptible throttle movement the RPM indication jumps from 900 to 2300 and then with slightly more throttle movement it returns to a normal indication of about 1200. All RPMs above that point are normal. So, the only problem area is slightly above idle where the RPM makes erratic jumps.
1. Has anyone encountered this situation before?  (Note: the manufacturer said it is the first time they have heard of such indications and have no clue what might cause it)
2. Any ideas on what might be causing the RPM flux?
Thanks,
Stan Sutterfield

Disregard that posting.  Further investigation discovered the new engine instruments display is a fault!
