I used the XH-M609 for a low voltage shutoff and posted about it here with directions:

I believe that the XH-M609 can also detect high voltage, but am not sure.

[quote="user9253"]eBay item number:364742288098 might be the device that you are looking for.
Or maybe this one from Amazon:

Instructions written in Chinlish:

Interesting Joe.
Looks like the XH-M609 may work. Should I mount it beside my fire extinguisher?Smile Joking..but seriously, for a unit like that would it be
unlikely to cause a major issue if it went into meltdown mode?
Thanks, Shawn

Thanks again gentlemen for the suggestions. As It turns out , after
consulting the folks at Garmin, it looks like I should be able to get 12v
to my Hobbs meter from the GEA24. Pin 9 on connector J243 is labeled
"RPM XDCR+12v -OUT".
Shawn

**"UPDATE" After further consultation with Garmin, the above information
is not correct. Pin 9 on the GEA 24 will output 12v as soon as the
unit is powered. Not once the the engine is running and RPM is
active as stated above.**

What's the alternator in your system?
PM dynamo perhaps?

I happened across this circuit stored on my hard drive. Can not remember who
the author is. It is designed to detect an AC voltage. The output of an
alternator is not perfect DC, but has an AC component. This circuit will rectify
that AC voltage and output a DC voltage, perhaps enough to enough to enable
the Honeywell LCD LM SERIES MCU Hobbs meter. Since the meter only
requires 0.8 milliamp, its enable pin must require much less than that.
Perhaps someone can suggest resistor and capacitor values.
