Sorry for the late reply, but there is a significant detail about the operation of my circuit that I neglected to mention.  Given that I expect that the use of external power to be an extremely rare event, the normal position of the CB is open.  Prior to applying external power I will close the CB and let the circuit do its work.  When done with the external power, I will open the breaker which will open the contactor.  While I certainly don't advocate using a CB as a switch, this would be such a rare event it would be less wear than cycling the CBs during the annual.
