I use a bore scope to get a good look. My brackets are painted so if a crack appears, it should show by means of broken paint.

I do look now at every oil change.

Mine fit snug during assembly so I don’t believe there is unintended stress.

I do keep my eye open for it though

Re: Horizontal Stabilizer Safety Bulletin 2017

While doing my "Condition" Inspection I found out about the cracked attach brackets
on the Zodiac. I examined all the visible ones very carefully and found no
problems. I believe the cracking is due to very poor workmanship and using an
over sized washer that extended into the curved radius of the bend in the metal.
The photos on the site are a sign of very poor workmanship and not a design
problem. My plane was built using the fast build kit and the Horizontal Stabilizer
spar and attach fittings came assembled from the factory.

I would like to know what most builders are doing about the 2 angles inside the
skin. At this time I do not believe I will remove and cut the hole to examine
them.

Any input from builders would be appreciated.

Thank You

Bobby

I'm not sure I understand the attach bracket problem. That said, I
didn't like the way the 4 aluminum parts holding the horizontal
stabilizer in place on my Zodiac XL were performing. The stabilizer
could be moved easily by applying force on the end. So I changed them
to steel. The stabilizer is firmly attached on my plane.

We should remember there was no revision control on the Zodiac XL
changes. It is possible that each one of the thousand copies of this
design is different from the others.

"B". My plane was already registered when Zenith decided the upgrade
changed the part number.)
