Some time ago when the MFJ-259 was mentioned in a post, I was wishing you had made a 'comic book' about it's proper use associated with aircraft testing. You were otherwise occupied at the time but thought it was a good idea to put on your to-do list. I would still appreciate your guidance since the included manual mentions several things NOT to do. Knowing how to do nondestructive testing would help. Thanks.

Good idea . . .

I'll put it in the 'bucket' of topics.

I bought a lovely Agilent 8664A 100Mhz-3GHz signal generator on eBay a while back for about $800 - that would do the trick. Unfortunately it weighs 50lbs and getting down the stairs from the attic and out to the airport ramp would just about kill me.

Yeah, I own one of the 'cousins'

Got it off eBay about 12 years ago . . . it's
still working. I'm considering adding an
external, GPS disciplined reference oscillator.
Those are available now for under $200.

Not that it will add much . . . last time I
checked it against WWV it was still within
2 ppm after a 2 hour warm up. But with the
commercial two-way tolerances getting ever
tighter, being able to improve accuracy
by several orders of magnitude could
be handy.

I'm amazed at how good many of the jelly-bean
transceivers out of China are. I've helped
my fellow EMT crew acquire low cost (read
disposable) monitor radios. Out of 7 or 8
radios purchased so far, only one was more than
300 Hz off frequency at 453 Mhz.
