Regarding fuel leak,

That rectangular unit is the fuel scavenger system which drains excess fuel from various areas of the engine. It is normal to have some fuel leak out of there. How much fuel are you losing? Is it coming out of the small tube that is at the bottom of the box?

not a ton. It did stop eventually. Our second ship leaked out about 4 gallons over the spring months (march to June). Once she was out fying she stopped leaking. Took her to her hangar for a month (I have to travel for work) and she started leaking again.

i think she's mad at me....

If the internal fuel tank is half full to full, fuel will leak out the fuel scavenge tube. If under half full, there shouldn't be any fuel venting or very minimal. Fuel venting is normal as fuel will migrate from the internal tank to the fuel scavenge tube over a period of time. The amount depends on the amount of fuel in the internal tank, ambient temp, and how the aircraft is sitting. This is what I have found on my L-29. Hope it helps

That helps alot, this winter one of our birds was sitting with about 580 gals on board, and she leaked pretty much non stop. Took her out for this summer and most of our ops left her with 200gals or less. Not a drop.

Our second bird stops leaking at 600gals

thanks again.

Thats our experience as well, anything over 400L drives a small leak. Under 400L, nothing.
