Uh! Oh! Pat....
Tax as a percentage of GDP is 39 % in Great Britain and 26.9 % in the U.S.

Not to get too far afield, but I find the 26.9% number for the US to be
highly suspect. Having said that, I'm a bit surprised that Pat is
surprised. If he saw what some guys in other states pay every year for
homebuilt use taxes he'd probably die of cardiac arrest. Smile

I suppose if it were all on the table,,,, people would have a kniption fit...   After income tax, property tax, sales tax, state and federal excise tax, utility taxes,   special use tax, that  added to the fees collected in Lew of taxes (people get tired of too many taxes, so if it is called a fee, maybe people won't mind as much).   Schucks,,,   when i was in business they taxed the tools my dad gave me when i was 14 years old,,,   and when they could not collect enough, they had a minimum tax added onto my tax burden just to make it worth while to collect......   I'll bet the total is in excess of 50 percent  maybe 55 percent.   After billing me taxes on my plane for years.  They offered a lifetime tax on the plane,  it was quite a bit more, but once and done...  Sounded good so I paid it only to have the program repealed the next year.  When repealed the yearly fee went up by 50 percent.

Hi Charlie,
we don`t have taxes based on owning something.(except houses) Taxes on USING
something, cars.lorries yes. None on boats, though you may have to pay for a
mooring or maybe a license if you are in a river or canal. None on planes
except what you pay for C of A. We don`t tip everyone either.
Restaurants, taxis, sometimes hairdressers (Gawd knows why) Women tip
hairdressers I believe. Tips are usually 10%, maybe 12.5% if you are feeling
generous. I have never heard the farmer who owns the field I flew my
microlight from complain about a tax and being a farmer I am sure he would
have moaned about it if he paid such a tax.

Quite right, but having watched the stuff on US TV and bearing in mind that
we have several channels with no adverts. at all, it is well worth it. All
pensioners get TV with no charge. Hose tax? Yep. Dont you get charged for
water? We used to get charged for water on the basis of the size (value) of
your house, with a surcharge if you used a hose. Most households have
changed over to paying through a meter where this does not apply.

Hi Jim,
re `hose tax`. It so happens that my water bill for the end of last November
to the beginning of this May has just arrived. First. There is no extra to
pay for a hose if you pay by watermeter.
Charges are for 50 cu mtrs (10000 gallons) and includes charges for sewerage
(on the basis that what comes into the premises goes out as sewerage) Total
£223.81p. Just for interest. Pat

John. I just lost a bet with myself. i bet you would complain in 36 hours
and it took 48. Things must be busy at the Holler. Relax. The little sojourn
into who pays what tax to keep their KOLBS in various countries/states has
run its course. We can all get back to fascinating things like how many
holes in the rudder post or how to generally mess about with an airplane
which is perfectly OK if you leave it as Homer designed it.

Patrick -
John isn't the only one who wants to stick to flying and Kolb topics on this list, so don't diss on him. And actually I find posts about Kolb repairs and modifications interesting - even though I fly a Talon.
So please aim your political e-mails to some other list.

Arty,

I think information on taxes for your Kolb are fine for the list. I think John started it by talking about how much his kolb was taxed per year.

Relax and go fly your Talon.

Heck, I don't remember what I said, but I remember saying I had to pay 50.00
a year to the county for my airplane. The rest of my post was Kolb related,
I think. Yes it was. I was talking about not registering Gantt
International Airport.

Discussion of British water bills doesn't belong on the Kolb List.

Come Patrick/Kolbers, I did say please. Wink
