Hey guys,

Just completed the annual and during the maintenance run up we discovered that the stab trim does not work. Worked great last time I used it, but no so much anymore. It refuses to move what so ever.

Here is what we know so far;

The motor works. We connected it directly to 24v power and it works well in both directions.

We think the problem may be with the control box just above the motor (the one containing the 4 contact/stop switches) or with the relays in the aft fuselage.

Anyone ever saw this before? If so your ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

DF

Could be some switch near and connected to the flaps.

Thanks.

I will look it up.

I did blow the flaps down (I had to service the accumulator any way) to make sure the fact that the flaps were up didn't affect the stab trip, but still no change. I will look at the switches. I would assume it is a stop switch in the up position?

Ok, we'll look at it, but we do have 22volts at the connector next to the motor.

Is there a different pin for the power than the signal?

Micro switch is stuck. Remove top wing strap and use long screw driver to actuate micro switches.
I can’t remember which wing??

Had this happen on my L-29. My tail stuck in the landing position. Took off and didn't know it had stuck there. Very interesting when the nose goes straight up when you retract the flaps.
Fix told to me by Zach McNeil and it worked on my plane. Get some spray electronic cleaner, usually available at your auto parts store, and spray down the sides of the flap buttons. Give it a good spray several times. I did this and this fixed my problem. Might not work for you but worth a try.

Alright, all fixed.

Turns out is was the switch in the LH wing that never sent the signal that the flaps were moving, so the trim worked perfectly - it didn't move.

Played with it a few times and all works perfectly now. I did clean it with some contact cleaner just to be safe.

Now I know where it is, so should it happen again I known where to look.

Thanks for the help.
