Hello everybody,
Im new to the Europa and the forum. I hope to be heading to France in a few weeks and was looking for some advice regarding an entry Airport. I will be crossing around Lydd as that is where the channel in the narrowest. I need to gain more confidence in the plane before going further over water.
Where would you suggest I clear customs/Immigration into France, bearing in mind that I speak no French? Any advise would be most appreciated.

Glenn, Le Touquet is very well set up for first timers, especially if you are not planning to go deep into France. The only minor drawback is that they charge you 20 euros or some such - more like English A/Fs than French standards. If you are going further into France then Troyes is a good choice, with customs (on request) and UL91 on tap and an interesting city to overnight in. I attach last year's Le Touquet briefing sheet that was prepared for the annual Europa Club Fly out (due May 21st this year), which is set up with Channel virgins in mind. Are you in the Europa club? If not I strongly recommend it, also you will find a wealth of relevant info & what I like to feel is the best aviation weather page on the club site (www.theeuropaclub.org). You are welcome to give me a ring if you have specific queries - number on club website & in club magazine (Europa Flyer).

Le Touquet is a good start, uk prices (expensive) not French prices but so many Brits fly there it is really setup for us. Bikes to hire or a walk into town which is very pleasant. English on the radio.

Glen,
I have to admit that I normally avoid LeTorquet due to the charges but I have to admit that the last time I went there, September 2015 the landing fee was a reasonable €12

I've had good service from Rennes, less than 10 Euro ldg fee, free parking at the very friendly Aeroclub with wifi.

Glenn,I ususaly go via Rochester where you can pick up UL91 fuel, file flight plan, and route short crossing and down to LeTouquet where Avgas is available and very helpful staff.
Went to Beauvais last time? dont go there ???
Came back via Caen direct to Sleap.
First time I suggest LeTouquet.

I will echo Le Touquet. I used that as my first landing in the EU when I ferried my plane from the UK. A great airport. Very friendly, and nothing to worry about.
As you have a classic like me, I wouldn't worry about crossing the channel. If anything goes wrong we float with our foam filled wings  ***
I am sure there are people who will disagree with me, but I find nothing difficult about crossing the channel. It's more of a paperwork exercise, as you need to file a plan to go and return... and a customs GAR on return. You don't need one on your way to the EU. The only other difference is that the people on the other end of the radio have different accents.
