I remember a long thread about GPSs on this list - which were visible in bright sunlight, whether to use an iPad or iPod or something else...

I can't find it, and now that I'm ready to get a GPS, I'd love to re-read that thread before asking the list questions.
Thanks -

I use the iFly 700, and find it really good in the sunlight.  I haven't seen anything better.  I don't think an iPad could do anywhere near as well.

Hi,
I use a mini I pad. Really washes
out on sunlight--unreadable
Hower I bought a cheap plastic
Container that the bottom fits the I pad.
With sides about 4inhight, painted
The inside black. Makesthe I pad
Perfectly readable in any light.I use the I pad for all fllight planing , as a GPS
, charts and all navigation.
Great setup and cheap. Good luck
Frank.

I believe the thread was "Modern GPSes", and the Garmin 60CX was mentioned as being viewable in daylight.

I use an original nexus 7 in an rv4 (bubble canopy) with no problems seeing screen details. The newer '2013' model is said to be much brighter still, and has more total pixels than a full size ipad with Retina display. I find the free Avare software to be more than adequate for basic navigation.

FWIW,
Charlie
