Dear forumites.

It is with great sadness I inform you that our friend Moe Mills was involved in a horrible freak car accident at night in NM end of last week. He was in a head on car crash with some female delinquents escaping from the cops in a car that had the headlights turned off. Both the girls died and Moe is in critical condition.

I share the same mechanics since many years with Moe and it was they who told me. Most of this third hand information, so don't know too many details and don't know exactly what is correct. I ask his family for forgiveness if I get it wrong or for mentioning it here, but I know Moe was a good friend of many on this board. Suffice to say it has affected me personally as Moe was always such a great, vital and funny human being to be around. It was always a joy to see him. And at 70, he was fitter than I ever will be.

He is off life support - but do not know if that means there's no more hope, or he's doing better. Hopefully the latter and only time will tell. If you're religious, I think it would be time to include him in your prayers. Hope Moe can pull through.

/Adam

All,
I had the opportunity to meet Moe when we both took the course to fly the Atlantic several years ago. Immediately one knew that he was a special person. At the time he owned a company that made pistons for racing engines. He was/is a very interesting person. I haven't owned my twin commander for 3 years but still access and support this list just to follow what Moe is doing. My thoughts and prayers go out to a very special person and his family.

From Ross Racing Pistons:

Jack 'Moe' Mills 1946-2014
Today, Ross Racing Pistons Lost One Of Its Founding Members, a man we all know and love, Jack 'MOE' Mills. Born in 1946, Moe went on to help create Ross Racing Pistons and will forever remain in our hearts. Moe had many friends in the automotive industry and we would love to hear any stories you may want to share to help celebrate the life of this wonderful man!

Commander Family

I cannot begin to express the sadness of this. My entire family loved Moe and we will truly, truly will miss him. Their fondest memories of the commander fly-ins are the stories of Moe. The commander reunions will never be the same without the man in purple.

Moe was one of my earliest & favorite Commander friends. Morris, Jimbob and Moe are the three people who made the Commander world my second family. No fly-in would be complete without Moe’s presence, and his uncanny ability to win the Golden Pedal award. I will miss him, and I know his absence will be felt at every fly-in. I am, however, richer for having known him and will remember fondly the fly-ins, dinners, tours, and flights in N680RR.

Hi All,
Went to sleep having spoken to the hospital feeling full of hope. Awoke this morning to news from Buddy that the hospital had mislead us.
Jacqui and I are devastated. Moe was a true friend. He made the effort to come to OZ for my 50th. I spend a few weeks with him in August at his home and a trip to Sturgis. A caring and generous man that I spent hours with talking and just enjoying life.
RIP Mate I’ll miss you. We will all miss you.

This intensely sad news leaves a cold and empty hole in Commanderland - I cannot find words this morning to adequately pay tribute to Moe; his generosity, his un-ending willingness to help, his truly genuine persona, his good humour and his preference to always 'go that one step further'...I will truly miss the conversations and insane stories that we have shared as fellow slumlords...

Folks,
A sad loss.
I only made Moe's acquaintance once, and it was about comp. pistons, not aeroplanes, in that one (not so - several ales were consumed) brief meeting, it was obvious he was one of life's characters.
May he rest in peace.
Sincerely,
Bill Hamilton

It is no coincidence that in Moe's last presence in this forum, he was asking if we were going to combine our meeting with the Twin Commander group in Savanna for the next fly-in. He was truly a pillar in this Commander Family, fully dedicated and would completely put his thought, knowledge and charm to the cause.

He was a very unique individual, with a great sense of humor and an unbelievable presence. As some of the Commanders people who make it to these fly-in, we are globe trotters and Moe is one of those character who would stick out wherever you put him in this planet. He is one of those people that you don't really realize how much you appreciate until the moment you find out that only memories will linger in your heart and soul.

I had a blast with him from the very first day I met him in Oklahoma in 2008. We had a wild night at the Wormy Dog Saloon (thanks to Dan & Teresa); slowly every one left except both of us and the conversations about Aero Commanders and life experiences gushed out with laughter and seriousness. We got lost trying to come back to the hotel and ended up in a really sketchy part of town... (sounds familiar?)

For some reason I feel like I have known him all my life. I have a knot in my throat I cannot really fathom yet. Indeed it will never be the same without Moe but I am also looking forward to our next meeting and share with you all my dear moments with him in a desperate failing attempt to heal such a deep wound.

I had forgotten about the photos from our last meeting, I guess it is time:

https://picasaweb.google.com/YVABE560/TCFGCO14select?authuser=0&authkey=Gv1sRgCO6r4OD_8YjjPA&feat=directlink

Fly hi Amigo, hopefully we'll meet again.

I met Moe at the Twin Commander University held at the EAA head quarters in Oshkosh Wisconsin.I came into a meeting room for one of our seminars and took an empty seat. I looked to my left and saw this gentleman with shoulder length hair, dressed in a cowboy out fit complete with a leather vest and really neat snake skin boots. (blue?).He was talking to a mature, clean cut ,gentleman. I could heard some of their conversation and it sounded to me like they were discussing the deck clearance of the pistons in some airplane engine. I had an amateur back ground in drag racing and recognized the lingo. At some point when one of them stopped talking. I asked if that was in-fact the topic. Moe confirmed that it was. I asked him how he knew about this stuff and he informed me he was involved with a company that made racing pistons. I asked who bought them and he said most of the people in the Indy 500. I asked who the other knowledgeable guy was and he replied Dick Macoon AKA Mr RPM and holds more STC's and inventions for Commanders than any one else.
I became friends with both of them. Moe and I walked the EAA museum together that evening. He read each description on each plane in its entirety and added in depth details of his own. A truely amazing man.
I regret *I never hooked up with him for a ride in his great airplane. The economic down turn has kept me away from the most recent get togethers. I have hopes for Savannah. He will be greatly missed.
