Does anyone have a Manufacturer and Part  Numbers for an oil filter for a 912 to replace the Rotex Filter ?

k&n 1002 filter works well is a heavy duty  racing type with holes for safety wire also.

I use a Puralator PureOne PL10241 filter on my Rotax 912ULS. You should be able to cross reference other filters from this. I trust the PureOne to be one of the best premium filters available. 



When I took the 3 day Rotax 4-stroke class, the instructor said the Rotax filter has a higher "by pass" pressure than automotive filters and that by using an automotive filter, one runs the risk of the filter "by passing" at startup when the oil is thicker and pressures are higher. 



I've opened both the Rotax filter and the PureOne PL10241 filter and believe they have comparable filter areas.

I've used a variety of filters, all of which fit a 1991 Toyota Camry V6.

Bought a NAPA 21348 today.  No problems for 13 years.

Hi Guys,



A Fram Tough Guard TG3614 works just fine (bypass pressure of 22 psi) Normal aircraft bypass pressures are 12-14 psi). There are 14 other filters that will fit. I will publish a list a little later when I'm not at work. I am currently trying to get the bypass pressure for the rotax filter, but no one in the USA or Canada knows. Kodiak has not returned my email and Rotax in Austria has not retruned my email. I will find out. I have even tried tracking down the Mfg, but to no avail. 

I have used a TG3614 for 3 years (830 hrs) and no problems, plus I have friends with over 2500 hrs. on their 912s and never have done a rebuild with this filter. Rotax has even checked the 2500 hr. engine and found no reason for an overhaul except for the 1500 hr. TBO.  It was still tight as a drum and running like day one. Filters are designed to flow at a certain rate. The TG3614 is 6 gal. a minute and so are most in this catagory. This filter handles 4-8 cylinder cars. Car engines run oil pressures at 40-65 for normal cars. This is about the same as a rotax 912s. The Rotax does not flow more than the 6 gal. a minute. The bypass valve works only on differential pressure between the upstrem and down stream side of the filter. So unless your filter is clogged or your Rotax engine flows more oil per minute than a car, then I would have to say you will not have any issues.

Some things Mfg's. say look good on paper, but don't always hold up in real life.

What size of filtration do these filters provide in comparison to the Rotax

product. And do they have the same temperature stability?



There is a Champion p/n shown on some of the Rotax-supplied filters. Using

this part no. I

found that my local auto parts store had the same item in stock. They only

had the one, they had had it for three years and sold none.

The price was nearly three times the current Rotax price!

The temp is not a problem. I am looking for the micron filter size and bypass pressure from Rotax. It would be nice if someone in at Rotax in North America knew the answers, but I have not found anyone with that info. I have called all the distributors and techs in the USA and Canada. I tried to track down the exact Mfg, but to no avail. It is not made by the Champion people that we know here in the US. I called them, both the Aviation and Auto Champion group. If I don't hear from Rotax form Kodiak or overseas by Tuesday I am going to call Austria for the info. I'll keep the board informed.

You couldn't pay me enough to put a fram filter on my engine!

Open one up and check the quality against a K&N,STP Mobil 1 or Mann/Hummel

Read this article it will help understand some about filters.

I believe Pure One and Mobile 1 are some of the best, the Fram Tough Guard is not bad. A human hair is 50 microns in diameter and Mobile 1 says they filter at 10 micron, but you do need to know at what effiency rating that is.

What makes you think that Knecht-Mahle makes the Rotax 912s filter? I have looked and ask everywhere and know one seemed to know. The filter has the name Champion on it plus two part numbers.

I wrote down Mahle phone number and will call them tomorrow. I hope you are right as this may put an end to a long search for answers.

If you read this Rotax Document it clearly shows that Knecht/Mahle 0c11 is

the filter they use,

This side of the pond could use a Mann W77 as a direct replacement

Just spent the last month on 912 oil filter research. I spent the last 1.5 hrs. typing it up and lost the whole thing on submit. So while I cool down here is the Readers Digest version. If you want all the Whys and How comes please call me at 520-574-1080 in Tucson, Az.



In order.



1. Purolator

    Pure One  PL10241   [u]Best[/u]

    Synthetic medium and more than Mahle,   3.3" long

     bypass starts at 12 psi



2.  Mobile-1  M1-102

     Synthetic medium and more than Mahle

     bypass starts at 12psi



     Mahle OC 11 which is the Rotax 825-701  2.44" long    Good filter

     bypass starts at 13 psi, less filter sq. in. surface medium than Pure  

     One or Fram



3.  Fram Tough Guard  TG3614

     standard paper type medium,  3.3" long

     bypass starts at 12 psi



No, 1psi does not make a difference and each filter varies slightly anyway.
