I would love to build an RV-10 but the recent post of insurance costing approx. $3800 a year for full coverage gave me reason to sit back and pause..... I'm currently paying approx. $1400 p/year for the RV-7A with full coverage.
Like most, I am sure I would only fly with more than one-passenger rarely (if at all...). I like the RV-10 for it's cross-country capability and larger cabin. Therefore, for my type of flying (95% cross-country solo and/or maybe one passenger...), can an RV-10 be insured for two seats only? If so, what kind of rates have been quoted with a $100-125K hull value and the normal $1 million dollar liability policy?
My girlfriend would like to be able to take three suitcases full of shoes so we really don't have space for passengers!

I pay $2400 for the kind of coverage you are looking for and it is for four soles. Of course at the end, your experience will determine your rate. Talk to Falcon Insurance.

Sounds like a Catch-22. The insurance company is probably not going to give you 2-seater insurance, unless you register the airplane with the FAA as having 2 seats. And then if you ever did try using seats 3 and 4, you'd be violating the FARs, probably, and the insurance company would have a good reason to deny any claims.

Or just leave the back seats out and make a full cargo area/ camper.

From my experience just this week it makes no difference how you register the aircraft with the FAA, they will go by how many seats it "could" have. I have a Murphy Moose and they published on their website once that it could be a 4/6 seater. The insurance saw this and will only quote on it being a 6 seat aircraft now - complete PITA.

Yeah, I know.... but the benefits are well worth it. Trust me!
Besides, we have been together for ten (10) years and I have a lot invested in her. At 41 years old, she's got the body of a 21 year old (goes to the gym 5 days a week along with Yoga and Pilates classes the other two days).... Beautiful, sexy, smart and she's 'smoking hot'!. It's the perfect set up.... She owns and lives in her own home 18 miles away, I live alone in my home about 1.2 miles from the hangar/airport, and we get together on Saturday evening and all day on Sundays! The rest of the time I get to spend building or flying airplanes. What more could a guy want and who the heck would want to give that up? Oh, and on Sunday's she brings over all my pre-cooked/prepared meals for the entire next week..... Excellent cook and she love's to do it....
Sorry for the 'boast post'... but I just couldn't resist. I have too many buddies at the airport that would die to have the situation I have so if she needs room for three suitcases full of shoes..... she's got it!

You also need to consider the amount of ballast you'd have to add to the baggage compartment if you didn't have any back seats. Current pilots talk about wishing they had a little more elevator authority on landings when flying solo or light. I would imagine the removal of the rear seats would make the problem even more dramatic. Of course, you could go lighter forward of the firewall to compensate to some degree.
