Well whats the deal with the airconditioner??? I responded offline as
requested and also posted here for info, with no response.

While I'm on the subject. I've come up with another idea for AC. While
I was at SAM's club the other day, I noticed this little bitty 5200
BTU window unit which only draws 4.5 amps and weighs around 45 lbs.
The unit is assembled in 2 halves and looks like the
compressor/condensor unit is in the rear half, and the evaporator in
the front. Most window units have 2 fans, one for the evaporator and
one for the condensor. It sounds feasible that the
compressor/condensor section could be mounted in the radio bay in the
nose, and the refrigerant lines could be led through the bulkhead to
the evaporator unit in the cockpit. The unit costs $90, a 24v to 110V
900 watt inverter is another $100. You would just need to install a
couple of relays so you can remotely control power to the inverter and
to the evaporator fan in the cockpit (you would need to run 110vac
through the bulkhead into the cokpit to power the evaporator fan).
Total cost of parts would be under $500.

Since the recent post was for a 5200 btu AC unit and mentioned
inverters, sounds to me like someone came up with this idea already.

Seen the discussion concerning the air conditioning problem. You might want to also look at some of the air conditioning units being used by the street rodding community. Specifically, www.vintageair.com might have something that can be adapted. Space is usually a problem with most street rods.

air conditioning breakthrough??

Some more considerations:
The difference between VintageAir stuff and window units is the window
units are self contained. With the auto stuff, the compressor is
separate and generally run off a v-belt. On a piston aircraft that is
not a problem, but where would you attach a compressor on the L-29? Or
is there enough high pressure air available that you could use it? If
there is a continuous source of high pressure air, consider a Hilsch
vortex tube. No moving parts and no space required. However, you'll
need a LOT of air Smile. Another advantage is you can get both hot and
cold air from them, allowing the proper temp mixture any time of the
year and any altitude (within limits.)

I looked into vortex tubes, and there is no where near the bleed air
available to cool the cockpit. Obviously a window unit would need to
be disassembled in order to seperate the condenser/compressor section
from the evaporator section. refrigerant lines would need to be cut
and run through the cockpit.

Vintage air systems is what I originally experimented with, but they
rely on engine driven compressors, which is the main challenge in out
jets, not to mention cockpit airflow, and condensate removal. The
sandel 505 compressor coupled to a brushless 24v DC motor via pully
drive is the most practical approach.

On the L-29, there is two mechanical power source on the engine: the
first is for the high pressure pump, the second is not in use. Could
it be used for air coonditioning ?

Possibly, but I dont know what the gear ratio is, and it would
probably quite difficult to fabricate a accessory adapter which would
direct drive a compressor, and I cant remember how much room there is
back there.
