The E2D cannot be upgraded to160hp because of the O-235 front main bearing.
The E2A can be upgraded. There are a couple of other minor differences, but
this is the most important.

This is from the Lycoming book of engines.

O-320-E2A- Same E1A but with fixed pitch prop, and
uses 3/8 in. attaching bolts and has an alternate
rating of 140 HP at 2450 RPM.

150 HP 2700 RPM 80 Octane 7.00:1 compression

-E1A- Same as -A3B but with Type 1 dynafocal mounts.

-A3B- Same as -A3A except for straight riser in oil
sump and -32 carburator

-A3A- Same as -A1A but uses 7/16 in. dia. prop bolts.

-A1A- Controllable prop,25 degree spark advance,
Bendix S4LN-20 and S4LN-21 Magnetos

O-320-E2D- Similar to -E2A but with Slick Magnetos,
O-235 front main bearing and 7/16 in. prop flange
bushings.

Hope this helps. It looks confusing but is quite
simple.

Dave
