I would like to introduce myself to the list. My name is Bill Watson in
Durham NC. I just purchased the tail kit and it's being shipped to the
Alexander Tech Center for a week long tail building session later this
month.
This my first building experience. The -10 appears to be the perfect
project for my buddy/spouse and myself. Metal construction, Vans
quality, grass field compatible, two seats and space for all the shoes
she needs.. I currently own a Maule and live on a strip with an overly
large hangar that no longer looks too large. I added an enclosed and
air conditioned shop within the hangar and am ready to go.
Thanks to all of you that maintain the various builder sites! Fantastic
resources. I've been lurking on this list for 6months+ so a big thanks
to all of you who participate.
The journey begins.

Hi Bill, Welcome to the list, and congratulations. It sounds like you've done your homework and are ready to roll.
Be sure to pass along your experience with the Alexander Tech Center. I know there are folks on here who are interested.
Regards,
Mike Schipper

Bill,
I'm only slightly ahead (or possibly behind) of you - got my tail kit
last week and have already ordered a new vertical stabilizer skin to
replace the one that my wife and I managed to dimple a hole in where no
hole existed before. The Alexander experience should prevent such
blunders.
By the way, John Jessen has an excellent website that goes through the
building process step by step. You can find it at:

I'm located about 40 miles south of you in New Hill, NC. I have flown
my RV-4 into Lakeridge airport where you are located many times. It is
based at Cox Field in Apex, NC. I drive by Lakeridge every morning on
the way to work in Creedmoor. Good luck with the building process!

Bill, Alexander is a great experience and there is no better way to jump into the project than with a little guidance. Jacob is very knowledgeable and great to work with, If you remember tell him Eric and Jenna say hello. I went through there the end of February. Best money that I have spent in a long time, with the exception of buying the kit itself of course. They keep you pointed in the right direction and help you develop proper work practices. The won't do the build for you...which is a good thing...what they do is build your experience and confidence, and do some of the monotonous work, i.e. deburring, some match drilling, and priming. When you leave the project won't seem as daunting. Be prepared for some LONG days, but you will hardly notice the time fly by. Let us know how it goes for you down there. You will find this list to be a great resource for questions and plenty of opinions and good ideas. we are fortunate to have several builders that are flying that are still active on the board and are more than willing to assist others. To me that says alot about the people in our ever growing community. Welcome and enjoy the build.
