I just sent Barb at Vans a list of the items to omit from my finishing kit. I previously had her send me an inventory list of the kit, so I knew what was there. As I want to leave my options open for a James cowl, I omitted the cowl top, bottom, left/ right inlets, oil door and core, and all the spinner parts (7 items). I also omitted the tires and tubes, as I like the leakguard tubes and better tires. If anyone wants the actual part numbers of the cowl / spinner parts to omit, I would be happy to fax the list, and save you and Vans the trouble.

Absolutely. Then everyone can just look it up.
I did some updating today of the paint tips to include something sent to
me by Rick Sked, regarding where to paint the cabin if you're getting
Abby's interior: http://www.myrv10.com/tips/painting.html
Also, just got some air-to-air photos posted from last night.

Here is the IO-540 & Finish kit contents. I don't have the stuff crossed out but it is basically what Chris listed below. I plan on putting together a list of exclusion items based on my engine config once I get to that point. My engine is the BPA IO-540-X with the cold air induction. I will be using the special James cowl (for the cold air induction) and also their plenum.

Is that a 300hp engine? Is that fuel injected? Can you use that cowling with fuel injection? Are you concerned with exceeding Van's Vne at altitude? Sorry for all the questions, just trying to learn.

For those who get the digest version, and for other references,
I've added Michael's file here:
http://www.myrv10.com/tips/kits/index.html
along with other kit parts lists I've had posted there.
Back-up one level for the tips index:
http://www.myrv10.com/tips/index.html
If anyone ever has any updates to contribute, that would be
great. It would be nice to have someone's packing list
info for all the various kits shipping today.

It’s the 260HP Lycoming IO-540 “experimental” engine. No real mods to it other than 9-1 pistons and Allen’s cold air induction. Don’t forget Lycoming offers a, more expensive and heavier, cold air induction so this really isn’t anything out of the ordinary. The “I” in IO-540 means it is fuel injected. I will have the Airflow Performance FMS-300 injector system and dual Lightspeed III electronic ignition which are also very popular in the experimental world.
Will James is making two different cowls for the RV-10. One fits the stock 540 and the other fits the 540 with the cold air induction. They both will fit on injected engines but the plenum may need a tiny bump in the top for the AFP purge valve.
VNE isn’t an issue for me. For one I am probably going to do a three blade MT prop and for two I have the go fast/slow knob to keep me from breaking the speed of light. As for HP, we will see. I seriously doubt it will be anywhere close to 300HP. Especially with the chastising Allen give's me about using dual LSE III ignitions. He sees better HP out of mags on the dyno.

Chris,
Could you please re-fax the list of the things you are going to omit. Just got the laptop working again! I am going to get wheel pants from James also. I saw them at Lakeland. Thanks!!! Jim Gore
