In 2001 Before I built my first rv, I restored a 1962 Cherokee 160. New
interior, windshield, exterior paint, upholstery, dash goodies,etc..... the
step had some exterior corrosion, but the inside was just beautiful, no
signs of any corrosion (exception was the battery case). Now this was no
hangar queen. It was outside when I bought it. The thing that really
surprised me was the lack of deburring. The stringers and ribs were razor
sharp with cut marks everywhere. Also tons of buggered rivets. It never fell
out of the sky and passed every inspection....seeing this in a production
aircraft helped put things in perspective when I would agonize over a not so
perfect rivet in my RV. Also I never got too crazy with priming, just kept
it to mating surfaces between parts. How long has alclad been around??? Is
it possible the Cherokee had alclad? I'd be happy with 40 years......
