Need a serial port on a laptop? I use a USB to Serial adapter all the time at work. The telephone systems can be very picky about their connections but I’ve never had any problems with my adaptors. I’m at home now. If you can’t find one with a web search, write me and I’ll get a brand & part number for you from work.
