Hey Mark,
You tipped the scales in favor of the EKP-IV. I have been chatting with
Dynon for the D100 interface and AvMap for map updates. The map update cost
is just a little more than Garmin 296 but it also includes some private
airports. Not sure how their private airport directory compares to Garmin
496 directory but the 296 has none.

The interface to Dynon and my PC is same for 296 and EKP. The only other
differences are the 296 has built in antenna and superior internal battery
system.

Many thanks for all the assistance you are rendering to we builders, I hope
to fly my 701 in late July. Also, if you chat with Jon, say hi for me. He
is also a great 701 person.

These photos are low-res but will suffice. Nope, haven't made a list yet.... the mental one that keeps popping up in annoying me enough. Having worked on an RV7-A, I agree about the strength of the design. It's a beast alright. I haven't hung the engine or fitted the wings to the fuselage yet due to lack of room. Once my hangar is finished (2 months?) I'll move the project out there and continue. Oh yeah..... that light at the end of the tunnel? It turned out to be a train. (grinning)

Good luck on yours. It's a wonderful plane but a heck of a lot of work.

Ed

What are the 3 instruments in the center of the consol?

I'm laying out my panel and wondering how you have choose yours.

The top one is a backup ASI steam gauge. The next under that is a Becker transceiver. The bottom one is a Becker transponder. They are fit 2.25" round gauge holes . I chose the Becker units based on their small size and decent customer satisfaction reports. The x-ponder is reputed to handle frequent interrogation in a dense traffic area better than the similar Microair unit.

Since I don't have first hand experience using them yet, there remains the chance that my choice was a bad one. We'll see.
