I think there are some that have done this. I wanted to because I have a 172 with a 24 v system, and thought it would be nice to have some parts commonality. I ended up not doing it because of the battery weight, cost of some items was much more, like fuel boost pump. In the long run it was much easier to stay with 12 for me.
