In the middle of a project converting my MKIII/582 from a 2.58:1 B box to a 3.47:1 E box, when I pulled the E box off the donor engine, discovered the inside area around the rubber donut was full of dirt from some sort of bees. In spite of my best efforts it got on the seals and the bearings.
Eventually everything got cleaned up and ready to reassemble, but the question remained; how do I keep those varmints out of there?

Spent this afternoon installing it, pretty satisfied. This stuff is tough! Using a Dremel to cut it worked best. The pictures pretty well explain things. After I got it in place, then I bent it down tight. After I get some silver silicone, will also glue it to the outer gearbox case, can't think of any reason to remove it in the future.

In relation to that,

A friend of mine has a little Honda generator. I've told him to get it out once in a while and exercise.
Last week he couldn't get it started. He took in to his neighbor who has a backhoe he maintains himself. Could' get it going.
I took it to my friend Leroy who can fix literally anything.
He throw a little gas in the carb, trys it and it starts. But only runs for a second then shsssssssssss.
The gas comes flying out of the carburetor.
Mud Daubers got in there and clogged the muffler. So the fuel came out the other way.
After a cleaning it ran normally.
Gotta keep an eye on those little critters.
