Does anyone know what jets came stock in the Bing carbs on a 503 rotax? My plane/engine came from Taos NM area and was rejected for the 7100 ft altitude and the log books do not say what they took out.
I am in Riverside Ca now with a 730 ft elevation. Also does anyone have a set of stock jets that they took out of their carbs during re-jetting?? Thanks, Chic

Chic, As it happens I had my Bing manual next to my chair.  Do you have a carb no.?  It's usually found on a little tab on the barrel of the carb.  Otherwise jetting is all over the map.  It also changes if you have the inlet damper.  Here are examples from three different carburetor no.

Carb No.        Rotax Part No.    Main      Idle      Jet Needle      Needle Jet
54/36/1741     996294               158         45           8L2                 2.74
54/36/1803     996-952              195         45         15K2                 2.72
54/36/1805     996954                168        45          8L2                  2.74
All are listed for the 503.  I suspect the large jets of the 1803 engine are because it's a single carb engine.  I cannot find a recommendation for jetting in the current IPC except for the 582's.  If you can find the carb model I'll look up the exact jetting for you.

Hi Rick, thanks for the info. I found the carb #'s, one looks like 54/36/2002 and the other a little hard to read but I think it is 54/36/1546? Would Rotax put 2 different carb #'s on an engine from the factory?? Maybe one of mine has been changed out. Could you look up those #s and see what the jets originally were? Thanks, Chic

Wouldn't you know it.  The Bing manual doesn't show either of those carb numbers.  It does have the last jetting offered by Rotax.  For the 503DC: 158 Main Jet, a 45 idle jet, 2.70 Needle jet, an 11K2 needle, the clip should be in the middle groove on the needle and the idle screw adjustment should be .5 (1/2) turn in after contact with the slide.  I'm assuming you don't have the intake silencer. If you do then the Main jet goes down to a 148, the needle jet is a 2.68 and the idle screw is turned in one full turn after contact.  The idle jet and the jet needle stay the same.

LEAF and Lockwood have them, so does the Bing Agency in Council Grove, KS.  Have you checked what is in your carbs now?  Most probably you need a main jet and you may need to adjust the clip on the needle.  It just depends on what you have now.

OKAY....I pulled the bowls off my carbs and the main jets are 158. I was told that the carbs were rejetted for the 7100 ft altitude of Taos but it appears it was not. What the machine does have is a HACman inflight mixture control installed. That is what they must have meant when I was told it was rejetted. The actual owner of the plane had passed away and I got the info 2nd hand. I have been on the HACman website and this thing looks interesting but still trying to figure out how it works exactly. Don't know if it will really be a benefit to me here in the lower altitudes of SoCal (740ft). Thanks to everyone who supplied info/insight to the carb jetting, I will keep this info as it was helpful! Chic

I believe the Hacman allows you to move the jet needle into or out of the needle jet to lean or richen the cruise mixture according to the exhaust gas temperature. Most likely around 1100-1200 at cruise but down below 900-1000 at full power

Just checked out the HACman web site. Latest generation controls bowl pressure to lean or richen mixture. Lots different from a few years back. Better see what you have and then get the manual from HACman

It looks like I have the 1st Gen version of the HACman. They all work the same, leaning the mixture of the carbs by float bowl pressure regulation. Here is an article I found on an Avid/kitfox site that explains it and shows how to do the same thing for lots less $$$.
http://avidfoxflyers.com/index.php?/topic/5717 called -leaning-the-carbs-for-altitude-on-the-cheap/

From what I am reading, it doesn't seem to do much for you below 4000ft but above that there is supposedly a notable difference in performance/fuel consumption. Chic
