I’m almost finished with my RV-10 build and I’d like use my trickle charger
for both batteries on the ground. I’ve been maintaining both batteries
during the build with an Odyssey battery charger and both batteries wired in
parallel.
My electrical system is designed with dual batteries, each having an Independent system with separate battery contactors and a crossfeed relay.
I’m thinking that I can leave the batteries wired in parallel and install a
battery disconnect switch between the + to each battery. This would enable me to disconnect the parallel circuit after charging for flight. Worst case, I
Forget to disconnect them and they run parallel in flight.
Would an ACR automatic charging relay work better? Or split the + on the charger to go to each battery.
Your comments are appreciated.

Thanks for the information.

I currently have a dual battery, PC680s and a dual alternator system. The
Odyssey charger is an OBC 12a. I currently have both batteries in the shop
wired in parallel using the OBC charger to maintain until the airplane is
completed in a couple of months.

My charger plug in the plane is wired to maintain a charge on the primary
battery and not the secondary.

Charlie, you advice for splitting the charger + lead at it’s terminal is great
advice.

Reading the additional information about maintainers, I’ve now decided to
use the charger as wired in the plane for the primary only. I intend to fly the plane a minimum of once per week. Winter could stretch that occasionally.

You guys have been a tremendous resource during my build. I’m looking forward to finally flying this plane. I’ll keep you posted.
