Look for the old one and put it back on... Wink

That's what happened to my jet many years ago. The front canopy departed on initial climb out, some farmer found it, brought it to the airport and they put it right back on.

LOL

Guys, what was a reason for the canopy fly off? I can tell that since 1964 and until 1992 no any L-29 had a canopy fly off (at list in USSR). Did we just forget to lock a canopy? It could be a good lesson learn for others. Per L-29 manual it’s very dangerous situation as canopy can cut a head off, and that’s why per manual for emergency self leaving in flight a pilot should band his head down before open a canopy.
Fly safe.

Andy

I know of that came off in 1995.
Series of L29s had Canopy Unlock light, they never lost one so they stopped installing the light. Then they lost some and the next series had the light.
We leave them unlocked because it's hot. Then we forget to lock it. Oh well, it happens.
It is designed to go up and over the right wing. I was in the back seat for one of those. So fast you can't even see it go.
Takes lots of power to fly.

I just bought Zack’s inventory but I have not had a chance to see if he has a canopy. I’ll have a look Tomorrow or Thursday and let you know.

I wasn't flying, I was on the ground watching. It departed on takeoff, about 50 feet in the air. went up and over the wing, didn't hit or touch the airplane.

We've looked at it, and discussed with the pilot. It was a simple "forgot to lock it" .... there were some factors that contributed, Ie the checklist fell on the floor just prior to lining up etc.

accident. Call that for a reason.

“…Check list felt on the floor..”- we used to say loud to military training TC on a runway before takeoff : “Canopy is closed, Flaps -15”. If you don’t say it on a radio you would not get permission to take off. Simple, but effective. I do it until now, but loud to just myself.
Outside of check list.
Think about.
