Yes. I was a tech writer at Cessna in the 60s
when a fancy new gizmo called a silicon junction
diode started finding its way onto the battery
and starter contactors. You can get all the z-figures
at https://goo.gl/kovZJX where you will find a
consistent application of the rectifier diode
for the purpose of taming coil collapse transients.
