Greetings...

Every now and again, when I shut down my Rotax 912 ULS,
the prop, normally clockwise rotating from the cabin,
will wind down to 0 rpm, and then rotate in reverse (cc)
for several revolutions before finally stopping. Is
this cause for concern?

To most people the sky is the limit.
To those who love aviation, the sky is home.

Don't say that you don't have enough time. You have exactly
the same number of hours each day that were given to Albert
Einstein, Mother Teresa, and Leonardo da Vinci.

Hello J.

Not a good idea to spin oil pump in reverse even 1 revolution according to
manual.

Call Lockwood in Florida for their opinion how to stop this from occuring.

A few ideas from someone not yet flying:
Try different gas, perhaps with higher octane.
If variable prop try shut down with full course
Cool down engine a bit before shut down, if VP full course, into wind
enough RPM to lower temps from long low RPM taxi
Could try choke just before shut down
Try bringing idle way down for shut down (remember cars with carbs had
anti dieseling solenoids that did nothing more than lower the idle) Goes
now with saying make sure you are at idle
Make sure your ignition switch is properly grounding both ignitions
Try shut down on 1 mag, if same try from the other
You are using proper spark plugs?
Is mixture OK?
Carbon in cumbustion chamber?? I would run by Lockwood, but I have had
great sucess in my Volvo turbo getting carbon out by using Seafoam
purchased from Autoparts store, shooting some through intake, then
injecting distilled water at a fair high power setting till motor will
just bout run. If it were I trying to clean out carbon from my 914, I
would probably fill my water fire extinguisher with distilled water, and
plumb to the cross over tube with a needle valve in line.
Lead deposits will do you no good, so if you have run leaded fuel at all,
running some TCP or the alternative TCP that Spruce sells before cleaning
chamber may be a good idea
Here is something that should not come to mind, but did, try shutting down
with idle at 1800rpm, my gut is lower idle should work better, and you
could get opinions from everyone in the world why it will not work, but a
test will give you fact if it will not work, run by lockwood if this test
will hurt anything
