Have you tried my program for programming the 4k called 4kControl? It uses a different algorithm to find the 4k on the serial ports. It would be interesting to see if you get and different results. Find it here: http://www.matronics.com/4kcontrol Look for the section entitled "4kControl Version 1.0 Beta 2".

Does the 4k still work correctly as part of the system? In other words, in normal "music" mode? Can you select EQ and Xover memory locations and hear music, etc.?

Have you tried doing a complete system reset using the reset button on the C90 or other head unit?

Its pretty unlikely that the RS232 port on the 4k would just go out unless something pretty onerous happened like dropping 12v across the pins or something.

Hello,

I was hoping that someone may have the actual expected signal voltages and pin outs on the DB9 to troubleshoot a NO Target Unit on a 4k.

I have read the posts about having the correct cable, but that is not my problem. I was successfully tuning the unit last Thursday evening, and wanted to continue the next night, but I have not been able to re-establish a link.
I have tried to remove and reload the DSC program to my laptop with no luck. The unit works fine with the current settings.

I think that I may have a bad Intelligence board, but I'm not sure.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Hi Matt,

I was running version 3.03 successfully the last time it worked. I was making real time adjustments and the unit was responding properly. I will try 1.0beta2.

The 4k does work correctly with the CDX-C880 in every way in that I am able to play and select all my current presets.

I have not tried doing a system reset as of yet. I will try that as well.

Thanks for the prompt response,

Jason

Matt,

I just want to extend my gratitude for the guidence that you offered the other day.

After downloading and trying the 1.0beta2 this morning with no success, I tried the system reset next. That did the trick!! I can't tell you how relieved I was to re-establish communications!! I did some tweeking with the new interface this morning. I really like the fader approach much more than the standard interface.

After making some adjustments, I shut down the program, then the laptop and the unit went silent. I reset the head unit again and everything came back.

Can you tell me if there is a proper shutdown sequence to prevent further logic lockups?

Again, thanks for your help.

Jason

Awesome, glad to hear you got it running again. As far as "proper shutdown", I don't think there really is. The 4k is a bit temperamental especially when you start messing with the Xover settings.

Interestingly, the data transfer method they use on the EQ settings is fairly fool proof and works reliably. With the XOver settings, however, they send a lot more data for a given adjustment and I found when trying to write a software driver it was really easy to over-run the 4k with XOver data and it would "hang" it and then I would have to use the Reset button. I think its just a "feature"...

Best regards,
