Good morning --

Trying to get the recommended location for oil system temp probe(s).

Manual says: Recommended Engine Inlet temps: 122-149F
Maximum permissable engine outlet oil temp: 257F

I have a Peterson Fluid Systems tank with a probe port for the EI MVP50 monitor in the bottom half of tank, approximately 3.5 inches above the -12 oil outlet port. If I understand the oil system correctly, the next point after the oil leaves the tank is the engine driven oil pump.

Where are folks (Yaks, Moose, Radial Rocket, etc.) placing probes? More than one?

Cliff has recommended a MoCal AOT2 thermostat. Is there a location there folks are monitoring?

Also, is the cooler placed before the filter or filter before cooler?

Thanks very much for any notes / comments --

Andy, The oil tank temperature measured at the tank just before the outlet
would be the same a inlet oil temperature to the engine.
The Yaks have a small tank for a probe at the external oil inlet screen.

Some of the eastern block aircraft did measure both inlet and outlet oil
temperatures. (Wilga, PZL & Zlin).

Filter before or after oil cooler has been debated often. Most Yaks where
people have installed oil filters have installed them before the oil cooler.
