M-14P, Series II engine and parts for Sale:

• M-14P Engine, Series II, 300 hours since overhaul, original logbook, includes Western Fittings Kit and Skytronics alternator/regulator. $13,750.

• M-14 Exhaust System, stainless steel, made in USA, includes gaskets. $1375.

• MT Prop Adapter. Adapts Western style flat flange prop to the standard serrated M-14 propshaft. $275.

• Petersen 5 Gallon Oil Tank modified for use with the M-14 engine. Includes mounting brackets, Kimball on/off oil valve, silicone pad heater, oil temp probe fitting, scavenge oil return fitting, custom vent fittings, calibrated dipstick/cap assembly. $500.

• Kimball Air Start Components: Compressed air storage bottle with aux fill fitting, pressure guage, valve manifold with start valve, dump valve and safety valve. $350.

• Kimball Prop Governor Cable Bracket. $45

• Kimball Intake Manifold Drain Kit. $80

I'm getting into a project that's designed for an M14P engine. Having
yet collected no parts firewall forward, this could be ideal and I may
be interested in everything. I'm also trying to come up to speed on
these engines so I have a few questions.

First is about the prop adapter. A guy at Barrett Precision Engines last
summer at Oshkosh showed me what the splined propflange looked like. I
assume that's what you mean by the serrated M-14 propshaft. I thought
the MT prop attached directly to that though, and didn't need an adapter.

The prop governor bracket and prop governor wheel, I'm not sure what
those are all about? Are they generally useful or specific to the
installation this engine came out of?

Does the engine include the carburetor? The prop governor? Is it missing
other bits that I should be asking about but haven't thought of?

You mentioned pictures and those would be good.

ALSO YOU SHOULD BE PREPARED TO SPEND A COUPLE OF THOUSAND ON A GOOD SLIP JOINT EXHAUST SYSTEM. CHECK WITH THE KIMBALLS IN FLORIDA FOR THIS.

One minor addition to make this even more confusing:

Dennis, correct me on the terminology if you would please.

When ordering a new prop for the M-14P engine from MP, you can NOW specify whether it will mate to the original Russian "flange" (as it were), or to the Western type of prop mount. So if you NOW order a new prop now from MT, you can tell them what it will mount to in which case no adapter will be needed period.

However, if you desire to mount an older MT prop that has a Western style mount to a Russian style "serrated flange" you are going to need the prop adapter mentioned by Dennis.

At some point of time, M-14 engines, usually PF models, became available with the Western style of prop mount. How these engines were designated, I am not sure.

Mark is correct. If you happen to purchase an M14 with the western prop
mount, you won't need the adapter for the MTV prop. However, based on my
experiences with the new Whirlwind Scimitar blades installed in the V530
hub, the performance improvements over the Russian paddle prop are quite
noticeable and closely match the climb performance of an MTV prop
installed on an M14P.

The Whirlwind W530 blades are carbon fiber. No wood core. Weights of the
blades are virtually identical due to the fact they are made in a mold.
Cost is about $6K for the blades. Add about $1500 for an overhauled V530
Russian hub and an additional $1500 for the Whirlwind spinner and for
half the price of the MTV 9, you'll see about the same or better
performance. Just my 2 cents.
