Your description of opening from the inside is typical and that is how I open mine. From the outside you may choose to install a tab made out of aluminum angle mouted to the side skirt and canopy frame on each side. This gives you leverage to lift and slide your canopy rearward.

Dick:

I put small grips on each side of the canopy, near the aft end, and use them to push up on the canopy when it is shut all the way. I also found a little dry lubricant on the nylon slide helps as well. Best to not shut canopy all the way - keep aircraft  in a hanger.

Hi
What I did was run a small cable from the slide on the canopy rail to the canopy handle as you unlatch the canopy the handle pulls the cable and lifts the rear of the canopy always works without any fuss. If interested I can take some foto's next time I am at the airport.

The pictures are very interesting. But did you forget one? There are two copies of "Picture 160" and no "Picture 162".

Hi
I hope the foto's are helpful. I took these this morning here in the rain.
160 twice was a mistake but these are the best angles for clarity, 162
163 and 164 are slightly different angles, 165 shows the canopy opening.
If there are any questions I'll be glad to answer as best I can.

Can you please attach photo 162. It was not included in the original email.

Looks very interesting. How long did it take you to do this?

Thanks, Dick Tasker

This is very clever!

The way I see and interpret the pictures I now see how it works. The main question I have is: Does the cable ever get in the way when opening or closing the canopy? It looks like you have it
captured for a part of its length but the rest is free hanging. I realize that when it is closed it is pretty much taut, but how about when you are sliding the canopy back? Do you have a small
pulley in the part on the rear bulkhead area or is it just a bolt or other sliding surface?

Thanks, Dick Tasker

Hi
The system works very well, there is a small loop at the rear of the baggage compartment,
the size of the loop is determined by the lenght of the guide tube. I have never been bothered by it as it is well out of the way. When the canopy is closed the wire is pulled all the way but not tight. Not a very diffcult mechanism only a couple parts to make, there is a small pulley don't ask where I got it (junk pile). The most difficult thing to assemble is the pulley with its location and all the little washers and screws that must be assembled all at once, my fingers don't work all that well anymore.
