Lol, not that good, it's not a wiring issue. I have proven that several
ways, it was also wired by me so why would there be an issue....

Well today didn't go well as the new sender and meter arrived very late,
after I fitted it it read -7 psi static (a low zero).
Then when I tried to start the engine for a ground run the battery was
still flat. The charger I borrow had a high/low switch and apparently I
should have set it on high.
I'm at the airport now flying off for 2 weeks work so all stop and I'll
not be able to more forward until I get back.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Regards, Clive

Isnt PTFE a good insulator? are the threads the earth?

Hi Norm, thanks for mulling it over for me

I also had a sender on the engine wired up with the top off the sender
so I could manipulate the wiper, that worked fine, also ran the engine
with it jammed at a 2 bar reading, stayed solid reading on my panel.

Roger suggested pressuring up the oil galleries with air to see what

relief valve pops at and also should get a reading on the senders, I
haven't had an opportunity to do that but will at some point.

BTW I screw them in with PTFE, carefully so none goes into the engine.

Anyhow I have an update, I was musing the dynamics and what had
changed:

So I changed the oil to pure 80 and fitted a new filter

So I refitted the oil cooler into circuit and primed and topped up

Yesterday I pulled the plane out and ground ran it, 3.7 bar warming to

I sit in the house waiting for a 'Tim' sender and panel meter to be

We will see.....I hope something....

Re:Oil pressure sensing problem.....3300 HELP

Here's something which jumps out at me Clive:

"I fitted a standard mechanical gauge and read ~ 4 bar on the
galleries

and
on the normal pump output sensing positions."

So you have proven that the engine is in fact pumping oil.

"I checked the senders with an air supply and test gauge and got
reasonable
readings on the panel meter but back in the engine cranking with plugs
out
nothing."

So you have proven that your senders, wiring and the gauge on the
panel

Quote:
are
working - but only when the sender is out of the engine.

The only thing left is in how you are installing the pressure sender
into
the engine. Are you using anything on the threads of the sensors, such
as
thread sealing paste or, hopefully not but I have seen it used on fuel
fittings, thread sealing plumbers Teflon tape? I'm guessing no to
both,

Quote:
but
it's worth asking.

Failing that, can you do a simple "earth jump" test from maybe the
sender
thread or the case of the sender? - a short wire to some extra earth
place
nearby on the engine.
