Can anyone tell me what size lines are used on the manifold Quick drain lines, 1/8 or 1/4?

Henry, I assume you are talking about the intake manifold drains lines used

on the lower 3 cylinders?  



Typically these systems use AN#4 fittings.  Some people have used hard

Aluminum lines to connect everything together.  I would recommend against

this because every system I have seen that does it that way eventually

cracks these lines due to engine vibration and then you end up with a intake

air leak which can be really insidious to find.    



Instead use AN-4 fittings with steel braided flex hose.  Suggest hose such

as this:

Typical AN#4 braided hose has a .22 ID and a .44 OD.

Yep, you guessed correctly.  I used to use hard aluminum lines.  Yep,

one cracked.  Yep, it took awhile to realize what was going on with the

engine!  Yep, I immediately switched to braided steel flexible lines.

P.S.  Here's a little hint.  Leave the intake manifold drain valve OPEN

during engine priming.  Reach in the cockpit and INTENTIONALLY

over-prime the engine. Don't go nuts here... Say about 10-12 strokes of

the primer.  The excess fuel SHOULD come out the intake drain.  If it

does not, do not start your engine, you have oil backed up in those

drain lines, and you also might have oil IN THE INTAKES that you do not

want to suck into the cylinder!  



After doing this... Assuming fuel does come out the drain.. Look

carefully at all the lines and fittings in the system for fuel leaks.

I.E., It is hard to see anything coming out of these lines with the

engine running.  It IS EASY to see fuel coming out of these lines and

fittings when you over-prime the engine and one is cracked or loose,

etc.  



Lastly, after doing this, always gently pull the engine through making

sure you don't have any kind of hydraulic lock from the over-prime fuel

in a cylinder itself.  This has never happened to me, but it is indeed

possible if you go nuts with the priming and happen to have an intake

valve open!  As in.. I am saying this to cover my ass.

The Kimball's down in Florida have a system all readily developed. It uses

stainless lines and a quick drain. I just installed one on my Pitts 12

project and it went in good.

 I used an fittings, and all stainless steel braid lines and it worked perfectly the swivel female to female can be bought at any hydraulic shop !!
