Tried looking thru the archives (maybe I'm doing something wrong here...
) looking for input from you more experienced chaps regarding
SUBSTITUTING push/pull rods instead of stainless cables for the
ailerons. Have heard mention of same in earlier posts discussing this
but would really like to hear your thoughts and opinions. For
example, would they provide more effective control than cables (thinking
about any stretching of the cables.)

Thank you.

Using tubes instead of cables is usually considered to give a smoother feel
than cables, since even the small amount of stretch is eliminated. This is
felt by some to be particularly true when the cables go around a pulley,
which induces drag.

But tubes weigh more than cables. Tubes also can't go around corners, which
cables can with a pulley or (small angles) a fairlead. If you have a corner
and a tube, something like a bell crank is needed to translate the motion.
Bell cranks also add to the weight.

As usual, it's a tradeoff. My gut feel is that there aren't enough pulleys nor
long enough cables in a 601XL/650 to make this worth the estra weight and
trouble.

The aileron cable is a fairly long and completely straight run. I'm thinking about using push rods there. Dave Nixon used them in his 601XL and he is happy with them. I'm waiting on some photos from him.

With Dave's permission I will add them to my web site and give the list a note that they are there.
